The story is told of a man whose son had a dumb spirit. The disciples tried to cast it out, but were unsuccessful. He went to Jesus for help, but Jesus replied, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible.” The father, not sure of his faith said, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” What is the purpose of Faith? How does Faith lead to salvation? And how do we acquire it?

1.   What is faith?

“Now faith is the ___________ of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1).

2.   How important is faith?

“But without _______ it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is” (Heb. 11:6).

3.   Can only believing save a person?

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also _________, and tremble” (James 2:19).

While the demons believe, they won't be saved (Mark 1:23, 24; 2 Peter 2:4). Therefore we can conclude that it is possible to have correct theology and dead faith.

4.  How does one get faith and where does it come from?

“Looking unto ________ the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). “And straightway The father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” (Mark 9:24).

5.   What is saving faith based on?

“So then faith cometh by ________, and hearing by the word of ______” (Rom. 10:17).

6.   What is the relationship between faith and obedience?

“By _______ Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, _______; and he went out, not knowing whither he went” (Heb. 11:8). “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that _______ without ________ is dead?” (James 2:20).

7.    What is faith connected to?

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that ________ the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Rev. 14:12). “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we _________ the law” (Rom 3:31).

8.   What is the result of having saving faith?

“For ye are all the ________ of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal 3:26). “For this is the love of God, that we _______ his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God ___________ the _______: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).“Therefore being _________ by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom 5:1). “For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of ____________ by ______” (Gal. 5:5).

9.   How is the Christian to walk?

“For we walk by ______, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).

10. What is the relationship between faith and sin?

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to _________ all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Eph. 6:16). “There is therefore no ______________ to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." "That the _______________ of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Rom. 8:1, 4).

11. What is the purpose of faith?

“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the ________ of your souls” (1 Peter 1:8, 9).

12. Are you willing to live by faith and obey all that Christ has said?
